iOS 12 is coming out in a few weeks, complete with improvements and exciting new apps! Here are 3 exciting new features coming to an iPhone or iPad near you!
1. Measure App and Level Tool
There have been other third-party apps in the past which turned your device into a measuring tape, but with the newest upgrade, Apple has taken over the measuring-app space. This new tool allows you to measure everything from boxes, tables, walls, and other objects in a very simple fashion that involves using just a few taps. Just point your iPhone at the object, then tap and drag your finger along an edge. The app will fill in the rest, and the screen will display the correct measurements.
The Level tool has been moved into the Measure app. Once included within the Compass app, the Level tool was one of the best-kept secrets in earlier versions. Now, with the advent of iOS 12, this tool has been moved into the Measure app, where it is certain to get more attention! The Level tool allows you to turn your iPhone into a level, setting it down on any object to gauge its straightness.
2. Siri Shortcuts
Siri Shortcuts is a new feature that allows you to group several commands together in a named shortcut, which can be initiated any time by saying the new name in Siri. For instance, you can create a shortcut called “My Stocks” that causes Siri to bring up your portfolio when you say “my stocks”. Or you can create a shortcut called “Ski Day” that causes Siri to carry out several actions very quickly such as to display a snow report, show current weather, deliver directions to your pre-chosen ski slope in Maps, and anything else you have pre-programmed. All you have to do is say the name of the shortcut to Siri. Shortcuts are easy to set up, and will automate a lot of separate tasks into one named command.
3. Group FaceTime
Want an impromptu family reunion or a quick meeting for a group? iOS 12 now will allow 32 simultaneous users on one video call. Each user’s box enlarges when they are speaking, and the focus simultaneously alights on the speaker. With this new feature, you can get a video call together and work out the kinks together with up to 32 people for any situation.
